How to Administer Semiglutide

It is a once-a-week dose that works by mimicking hormones that target areas of the brain involved in regulating appetite and food intake. This can help you eat less and lead to weight loss.

  • It is injected under the skin, on the same day once a week, at any time of the day, with or without food.

  • Use a new needle each time you inject your medicine. Do not share needles or vial as this may result in transmission of infection.

  • It is given in the abdominal area, thighs or upper arms. Use a different body area each time you give yourself a shot. This will help prevent soreness or irritation at injection sites.

  • Clean the injection site prior to each injection with alcohol swabs.

  • Prepare injection only when you are ready to give it. Call physician if the medicine looks cloudy, has changed colors or has particles in it.

  • Do not inject into the same place two times in a row.

  • Let the medication sit at room temperature prior to injection: This will make injecting more comfortable.

  • Do not massage the injection site after injecting: Massaging the injection site can cause irritation.

  • If you choose a different weekly injection day, start your new schedule after at least 2 days have passed since the last injection you gave.

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

  • Throw away used needles in a hard, closed container that the needles cannot poke through and with a marker pen write on it "Do not recycle." Keep this container away from children and pets.

  • Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze
